About

Back in the day, Second City did an awesome skit called “Tex and Edna Boil’s Organ Emporium”. In honour of this most excellent of comedy troupes, I have named this Intentional Dance site after this skit. Laughing is better than crying and movement without laughter is like an old sock you find in the rain.

Philosophy

“People, we can rebuild ourselves. We have the technology!” Cults and brainwashing are bad, for sure, but think about raising a child: it’s essentially programming.

We can reprogramme ourselves through affirmations and meditation, but if we combine these with movement and the five senses, we exponentially increase our power to incorporate whatever it is we want to become into our bodies and being. Sound can change the heartbeat; it’s documented. Pleasant odours cause a person to breathe deeper, which gets more oxygen into the system. Inspiring sights calm a person, allowing more resources for endeavour, rather than fighting off depression and ennui, for example. Teaching your tongue to taste goodness, rather than flavour, can add years to your life. Lastly, touch healing has been documented for centuries. As a person who had chosen to isolate themselves in the past, to the point of experiencing creepy crawly skin so uncomfortable that I’d have to “get touched” any way I could, I know personally, how essential, potentially healing and growth inducing proper touch can be.

When we move in intentional dance, the blood flows, the heart pumps, the chemicals swirl around and recombine in our cells. We become stronger, physically and emotionally, and we connect with our unique way of interfacing in the world as we focus on the person we want to be.

All too often, we forget or ignore the fact that EVERYTHING we know is learned via the body and its senses, let alone that 50 to 90% of our communication is done physically and/or via vocal tone. This is serious, powerful fun!

About the Site

Dance Emporium is intended to be a community. Please email me to become a contributor, comment on the site, send me your suggestions, etc.

Areas that will be added:

  1. a workshop and event calendar for consciousness developing workshops and events
  2. inspirational videos. Personally, I love laughing and watching people dance and have informally collected online videos for several years.
  3. resources on goal fulfillment. There are many tools for taking control of your life and becoming the person you want to be. Let’s aggregate them.

I AM relatively new to WordPress so if you can help me out with anything, like how to set up so that users can add themselves instead of emailing me to do it, and/or how to add an event calendar, please email me at malcolm(dot)8(at)gmail(dot)com. I do know my way around a web page, but I’m much more conversant with Drupal than WP.
